Simple Steps You Can Take To Alleviate Back Pain For Good

At one point or another, the vast majority of us will suffer with back pain. It’s an uncomfortable fact of life sometimes, but that doesn’t mean we’re totally helpless to combat it. There are, thankfully, a bunch of steps we can all take to help ease the discomfort and get back to feeling right again. Here’s a look at some of those tips…

1. Sleep on a towel

This is something you can try to ease back pain, and you don’t even need to be awake for it! If you lay down a towel rolled into a tube shape in bed and position your pelvis over it, it might stretch you out in just the right way throughout the night. Make sure your hips are relaxed, though.

2. Don’t stop moving

If your back is sore, your instinct may be to rest it. The thing is, though, that’s not necessarily the right thing to do. As Dr. Salman Hemani told the WebMD website, being inactive “allows the muscles around the spine and in the back to become weak.” It’s far better, then, to move around a little and go for a regular stroll.

3. Wear better shoes

If our shoes don’t fit properly, we can end up feeling it in our backs. And if people wear high heels too much, that can really have a negative impact on their spinal health. It’s far better to wear comfortable, well-fitted footwear as much as possible. Orthotics might be needed in some cases.

4. Pay attention to your posture

Maintaining a good posture is essential for the state of our backs. That means keeping our spine in an appropriate position, which usually means our heads are directly aligned with our pelvises and our shoulders aren’t slouched. If necessary, we might consider employing tape or bands to help with all this.
